Taj Mahal (born Henry Saint Clair Fredericks in Harlem, May 17, 1942) was the son of a gospel singer and a West Indian jazz arranger. He grew up listening to greats like Ella Fitzgerald in his living room. In college he majored in agriculture (he frequently performs at Farm Aid concerts). A tasteful and generous performer, Taj has an impressive discography of albums.
