Gary Smith was born in the early 1950s in California, where he started out on drums and then switched to harmonica, because he couldn’t find a good harmonica player for his own band. He played the opening act for the first San Francisco Blues Festival in 1973 and has been part of the blues tradition ever since. A Hohner “Master of the Harmonica,” Smith plays locally in and around the San Jose area.
